Sign and Return a Letter of Support

Cerro Coso Community College’s new Licensed Midwifery Program will enroll its first student cohort starting in the Fall 2026 semester. It will be the first California-based, MBC-approved and MEAC-accredited CPM program housed within the California Community College system, where students will be able to access low tuition and financial aid. The program is being planned for hybrid delivery, with student placement at clinical sites in their home communities.
   

CALM and CAM have partnered with the college to provide outreach and assistance. We are currently asking for letters of support from potential preceptors to accompany the program application. This is not a commitment to take students right now – letters are needed to demonstrate to administrators that there are enough clinical sites in the state to support planned enrollment. Please sign and return a letter of support if you anticipate being able to take students at some point, now or in the future. A template letter to put on your practice’s letterhead is provided as a link below – feel free to edit as needed. The program’s philosophy is firmly grounded in the belief that growth of the community-based midwifery workforce is the best path to improving outcomes and eliminating inequities for pregnant people and their babies during the childbearing year. Students and preceptors will be able agree to any length of clinical placement; the commitment will be made on a semester-by semester basis. Ideally each student will have the opportunity to experience two to three midwifery practices during the course of their education.
