Thank you for your interest in the Biddy Mason Scholarship and Financial Aid, advised by Black Midwives Advisory Group and sponsored by Californians for the Advancement of Midwifery.
What follows here is a summary of what you'll need to know in preparation for filling out the application. More details and FAQ are linked above.
Qualified applicants will be:
1. Black identified,
2. California resident,
3. Midwifery student enrolled in (including a preceptor agreement) or recently graduated from a Medical Board of California approved midwifery program,
4. Planning to provide midwifery care in California as a California licensed midwife.
The deadline for completing applications is August 18, 2023.
Applicants should be prepared to upload the following information and/or documents:
1. Proof of California residence,
2. Letter(s) of recommendation,
3. Proof of enrollment or certificate of graduation from a California approved midwifery program,
4. A headshot,
5. For students, a copy of signed preceptor agreement.
Optional submissions:
1. Video (maximum 3 minutes) introducing yourself and speaking about how you intend to serve California birthing communities with your midwifery education and training.
2. A resume
There are three award categories:
$5,000 (1 each) student scholarship
$500 (1 each) licensing fees
$1,000 (1 each) new licensed midwife practice startup funds
Additionally, up to 10 qualified applicants (see the above qualifications) who complete the application but do not receive one of the three awards will receive a $100 gift card to offset midwifery education costs.
Once applicants have assembled all the necessary documents, we expect the form to take 30 minutes to complete. We recommend completing the application from a computer or laptop rather than a tablet/ipad or phone.
